St Peter’s and St Nicholas’ are the Anglican churches in Portishead.  We often work with and share in the ministry to Portishead with other churches in the town.

Prayer and Action in Portishead is the umbrella under which the churches in the town and pray and work together.  Christians of all denominations meet at the Wesley Centre (High Street) on the first Saturday of each month to pray together for the world and the local community, and the ministers meet in the Wesley Centre each week to pray for the town.

Out of an early meeting of Prayer and Action in Portishead on homelessness, came an initiative which led to the setting up of the Woodspring Deposit Guarantee Board, helping homeless people who cannot raise a deposit into rented accommodation.  After a talk from a Chaplain from the Seafarers’ Centre at Royal Portbury Dock, several people are now working as volunteers at the Centre.

We join together for United Church Services throughout the year, Lent Study Groups, a Good Friday Walk of Witness and Christian Aid Week house to house collections.  On Christmas Day a dinner with all the trimmings is provided for those who would otherwise be alone.
